2024 Beaver Queen Pageant Covid Statement
The Beaver Lodge Local 1504 and Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association are excited to bring the Beaver Queen Pageant back in person to the Duke Park Meadow on June 4th. Hygeniality is our priority as we reconvene to frolic in the meadow.
To help us all be as safe as possible and to ensure everyone who attends feels comfortable, all contestants, performers, and pageant crew are Covid-vaccinated and boostered.
We strongly encourage all audience members who are eligible to be Covid-vaccinated and boostered to protect themselves and their community members in the audience.
Since the COVID numbers have ticked up over the past two weeks in Durham County and we are now considered by the CDC to have a “high” rate of community transmission, we also ask that all attendees keep 6 feet from judges, give contestants space when interacting with them, and wear masks when you are in communal zones (kids tent, judges tent) where there are lots of beaver lovers in a small space and physical distancing will not be possible. But most importantly, if you feel sick please stay home!
For those who don’t feel comfortable attending, we completely understand and are taking steps to help include you in the celebration. We will be streaming portions of the event live on ECWA’s Instagram page (@ellerbecreeknc) and the entire pageant will be filmed and the video posted on the Beaver Lodge Local 1504’s Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/BeaverLodge) in the days following the pageant. The website www.beaverqueen.org will announce the queen and other awards on the evening of the pageant.
For more information about how we determined safety measures above and how you can be prepared for the event and prevent spread, please see CDC guidance at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/index.html and https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/gatherings.html.
peace, love, beaver, and hygeniality!

Preparation -- https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/index.html
- contestants and pageant crew are vaxxed and boosted
- we ask that eligible audience members be vaxxed, too, per CDC guidelines on best practices to mitigate the spread and effects of Covid
- just as important: stay home if you're feeling ill
Prevention -- https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/gatherings.html
Per CDC guidance, outdoor gatherings are much safer than indoors, but we want to take steps to make everybody feel comfortable.
- give judges 6ft space when bribing and please don't crowd the judges' area
- give contestants space when interacting with them
- in the seating area, be sensitive to the distance of neighbors; ask others if they are comfortable with the spacing
- in general, if you are vaccinated, feel free not to wear (or wear) a mask - however, when we can't maintain 6ft distance in more crowded communal areas (kids zone, voting booth), please wear a mask. Extra free surgical masks will be available in the ECWA safety tent located behind the kids arts and crafts area.
- Take advantage of the hand sanitizer located on each event table throughout the venue site and/or in the porta-potties.
- The bottom line is be hygenial! (be kind, conscious, and respectful of others)
